Give a Tanzanian family a year of healthcare. CHF insurance cards are €11 and cover essential care in local hospitals.
In Kahama, Tanzania, far too many families delay medical care. Not because they don’t need it, but because they simply cannot afford it. This delay often turns treatable conditions into life-threatening complications.
At Martus Foundation, we believe healthcare should never depend on distance, income or luck. That is why Martus Foundation supports families in getting Community Health Fund (CHF) insurance cards, a government-initiated system created in partnership with the World Bank.
A single CHF insurance card covers an entire household for 12 months, giving families the ability to visit registered hospitals and health centers in their region at no additional cost. The cost of one card starts at €11 per year (approximately 30,000 TZS), depending on how many facilities are available in the region. With this small contribution, families gain access to consultations, treatment, essential medication, and referrals.
Through the Insurance Card Project, we help identify vulnerable families, guide them through the registration process, and ensure they receive their card. Thanks to the generosity of donors and the involvement of local leaders, 1,944 families now have the security of knowing they can get care when they need it most.
